-with postwar construction smithsonian gets expanded

-the Red Castle entirely reconstructed and made bigger

-also a whole bunch of new buildings get constructed to house new students and brand-new teams of professors

-becomes the foremost face of the national university

-predominately with graduate students who are active in research

-also sets norms of education around the entire country

-at the same time includes a vast collection of the nation's stuff, placed in a grand museum
